Vancouver cybersecurity firm enters Latin America
Why did your company choose Latin America as its first point of expansion?
We’re a provider of AI-driven software for financial institutions and payment processors around the globe that protects payments from fraud and cyber-attacks.
In recent years, Latin American banks and card issuers have been experiencing a surge in sophisticated fraud and cyber-attacks. As a result, new regulations have been implemented across the region to address these issues, including an unprecedented increase in claims for unrecognized transactions involving debit, credit and financing products. This wave of new regulation means that banks and card issuers must now be prepared to assume greater responsibility and meet compliance—or risk financial and reputational damage.
This presented us an opportunity to expand deeper into the Latin American market to provide real-time fraud detection and prevention solutions and become an integral part of compliance strategies.
What did you do to prepare for entering the Latin American market?
Customer research: We leveraged our existing relationships with clients and partners in Latin America to learn more about our target market’s pain points and gain insight into changes in regulation. We discovered that our solution was well positioned to address the needs of the market, so we took this opportunity to launch an integrated marketing campaign to raise awareness and deepen relationships.
Competitor research: Our research confirmed that our solutions were better positioned to meet the needs of our target market at the right price point than other players.
Localized marketing strategy: It was important that we developed a marketing strategy that positioned us as a company that was committed to the region. Our imagery was adapted to reflect the local environment, including people, places and currency.
We implemented an integrated marketing campaign, including blogging, creating informational brochures, social media posts and conducting a webinar in Spanish.
It was important that we worked with a translation company that would take the time to understand who we are and the unique needs of our target audience. Partnering with Arvorei to translate and adapt our written content into Spanish was critical in positioning us as a local player in Latin America that truly understood the needs of our target market and the challenges they were facing.
Relationships with local distributors: As part of our strategy, we deepened our relationships with local resellers who have a deep understanding of the market, a solid client base and a strong network in the financial industry.
Relevant laws and regulations: Understanding local legal and taxation regulations in each target country was critical to our expansion.

Just for Laughs: Errors in Translation

Unfortunately, the makers of the sugar products above didn’t consult a professional translator who would have translated "golosità" correctly as “gourmet delights” or “sweet treats”. In other contexts, it can represent greed or gluttony, but clearly that was not the intention for the promotion of these products!
