When Daniel and Renata - elementary school sweethearts, business partners, and tea lovers - launched T by Daniel, they had a special purpose in mind: use tea as a vehicle to impact the world in an unforgettable way. 

They see tea as a way to bring people together, create special memories, and savour the tiny joys of everyday life.

When I met Daniel on a Startup Canada webinar earlier this year, he shared a very unique strategy they have used to ensure their launch expansion into new global markets would be successful.

Daniel explained that, with some initial market research in the United States, they discovered that tea lovers actually vary from state to state. This meant they couldn’t roll out a blanket marketing campaign from coast to coast.

So how did they figure out how to market T by Daniel to different customers across the United States?

They created a unique strategy that is a kind of modern-day focus group, leveraging the influence of existing customers who love their product and who have small communities or engaged followers on socials. Each of these ‘ambassadors’ was oriented on the kinds of questions T by Daniel wanted answers for and incentivized to gather the feedback. Daniel calls these customer-led focus groups ‘influencer pods’.

I loved how they found a way to involve those who were already big fans of their product and who could authentically represent the brand to their circles of influence, gathering valuable data for T by Daniel to use in marketing their brand across the US.

As a certified EN><ES translator and interpreter specialising in legal work, Diana works with law firms and B2B clients, offering top-notch legal translation, SEO, and copywriting services. She also collaborates with small LSPs as a freelance Operations & Project Manager.

With extensive first-hand experience in the UK translation and interpreting market and a background in the UK aviation industry, she brings valuable expertise in operations, customer service, and team leadership, plus a sharp understanding of British culture, allowing her language services to truly resonate with UK audiences.

Having rebuilt her business while navigating early motherhood, she discovered a passion for marketing and business strategy, and launched her end-to-end Translation Project Manager & Marketing Support Specialist service, where she has helped tens of clients focus on growing their LSP businesses.

Her belief that there is a better, more sustainable way to freelancing led her to co-found DUAL, an online Marketing for Translators Program, in 2023.

After a decade in the UK, she is now back in her home city of Madrid, where she lives with her husband, three energetic young kids, and a dog whose energy knows no bounds. When she is not juggling work and family life, she loves to train or escape to nature for a run.
