ChopValue: a global success story
With microfactories now in Bali, Malaysia, Philippines, Mexico, Singapore, Japan, the UK, Canada, and the US, ChopValue is a great example of a Canadian-born company that has found a way to successfully expand its circular economy blueprint into foreign markets to create local impact on a global scale.
Their success lies in identifying value-aligned partners and providing thought leadership, marketing, sales, and operational support to their franchisees. While each microfactory uses ChopValue’s proprietary core equipment and remanufacturing machinery - taking the resource material to finished end product, they also have the freedom to use their creativity and local networks to create a successful hyperlocal business that supports the resource efficiency of their community. Using an urban harvesting approach, ChopValue and its 80 microfactories (currently open and in the pipeline) worldwide have diverted over 200 million chopsticks from the landfill. | ![]() |
The concept is simple and has profound environmental impacts: repurposing an underutilized resource into climate positive wood alternative products with zero trade-offs to quality or design for homes, restaurants, and businesses.
Since its first year as a BCorp, they achieved Best For The World: Environment with their team’s continuous commitment to redefining the term waste to resource.

CanExport SME Grant
Grant applications accepted starting April 1st
If you’re a Canadian company with 1-500 employees and $100,000 to $100MM in revenues, you can apply for a CanExport SME grant to support your expansion plans outside of Canada. The grant will fund 50% of your project expenses up to $100,000 which equates to up to $50,000 in non-dilutive funding.
Since CanExport funding can be difficult to get approved, I highly recommend you seek the proven expertise of a grant expert such as Granted Consulting or Pocketed. Both of these organizations are hosting webinars this month - check them out below.
Expand Horizons: Market expansion grants demystified | Hosted by: Granted Consulting | Thursday, Feb 13th |

Are you including Translation Services in your CanExport application?
Did you know you can improve your chances of approval if you include the name of your Translation/Language Partner? We'd love to chat with you about a possible fit.
Also, if you need help estimating translation costs for your market expansion budget, please reach out.

Unveiling our brand new look!
Here’s just a sample…

For the first few years of my reimagined business, I’ve created my own brand on a shoestring, designing my simple ‘tree’ logo for free online, purchasing a photoshoot at a fundraiser, and building simple templates on Canva. But I’ve always wanted to have more professional brand assets with graphic imagery that reflects what we seek to do for our clients: support their growth in new language markets, whether abroad or right here in Canada.
When I met Rachel Lee through The Forum about 3 years ago, I knew I wanted to hire her to create a professional brand for my business. But as a startup, cash was tight and it was not the priority. Last fall, Rachel was preparing for a pivot in her business and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse!
We met for a discovery call, I prepared all the materials she requested, and within a week, she presented to me my proposed vision board and brand look. With a couple of tweaks, she was off to build my brand assets, which she turned around in another week!

As you can see, she’s a very talented brand stylist - and super fun to work with too!
Needless to say, I’m absolutely thrilled with what Rachel created for me! She brought into the assets who I am and what I stand for:
building meaningful connections with my team, clients, and collaborators
creating more impact for the businesses we serve by helping them reach new language markets
making our own impact by supporting organizations - like Cameras for Girls and Brands for Better Foundation - that are supporting entrepreneurship here in Canada and in Africa.
If you’re looking for support with your brand, reach out to Rachel. You won’t be disappointed!

If your business is already in a foreign market, we want to hear from you! Arvorei is conducting research with global players to support the development of new service offerings. In return for sharing your story, we’ll feature you in an upcoming issue of Ready-Set-Grow! and on our social posts. If you’re interested in exploring this opportunity, reach out to Arvorei Founder & President Kim Jacob at [email protected].
